The film deals with the feeling of being chosen, and the responsibility that comes with being the Virgin Mary’s messenger. Using archival material, both images and text, a narrative is created from children’s experiences of various apparitions in Fatima, Garabandal and Medjugorje.
In recent years in Iran, socio-political circumstances have increased the rate of emigration, making separation a routine in daily lives. This film attempts to examine the experience from the viewpoint of the person who stays behind.
The film is part 1 of a larger research project on sonic obedience and disobedience through the trope of the siren. It posits the siren’s loud glissando wail as a conditioned and learned signal, one that can potentially be perceptually and musically rewired.
